At Hatherley Infant School, we believe:

music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity.’ A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

We aim to ensure that through listening and appraising, performing and composing, children will:

• use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes
• play tuned and un-tuned instruments musically
• listen with concentration and understanding to a range of high-quality live and recorded music
• experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the inter-related dimensions of music.
• develop their self-confidence.
• enjoy the subject and have fun!

At Hatherley, we teach music through Charanga Musical School. This is an online platform that enables children to understand musical concepts through a repetition-based approach to learning. Learning about the same musical concept through different musical activities enables a more secure, deeper learning and mastery of musical skills.

EYFS

The Early Years Foundation stage is guided by the requirements and recommendations set out in the Early Years ‘Expressive Arts and Design’ strand. Music in the early years may also follow the mastery approach. Children are encouraged to use instruments, enjoy, explore and talk about music.

In addition to our music in the curriculum, we also have a weekly singing assembly and a choir.

Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind and life to everything... without music life would be an error.
